Salmon Fishing in the Yemen: It’s one of those kinda quirky British comedies which is oh so pleasant, but not actually that funny. Still, you could do a lot worse.

The Avengers: Hours later the gleeful smile remains. Live up to the potential? It smashes it. Now this is a SUPERHERO movie. Every character gets to shine.
Cabin in the Woods: There’s no twist here, but you deserve to see it unspoiled. Another film which throws cliches at the screen… but with a lot of thought.
Battleship: This is a huge budget B-Movie which throws every available cliche at the screen with reckless abandon. I’ll say this: Better than the Transformers movies…
Contraband: I don’t know what’s more impressive: the depth of the hole, or the fact he manages to dig his way out of it.
Wrath of the Titans: If you told me this film didn’t actually have a script, I would believe it. Put it on the list for bad film night, maybe.
The Hunger Games: The bastard child of the X-Factor and the Running Man, raised by Flash Gorden, and possessing more subtlety than that suggests. Few surprises, though.
John Carter: This finely crafted pulpy sci-fi is a hell of a lot of fun. I honestly don’t understand why it’s doing so badly at the cinema.
This Means War: Are we actually supposed to believe they would have gotten away with this? This cast deserves better. What kind of an idiot… oh… right…
Chronicle: If teenagers got superpowers, I’m pretty sure this is how it would go down. Not sure if the found footage thing helps or hurts, though.
Underworld Awakening: I fail to understand why the vampires in this series are so shit when compared to the werewolves. It’s ridiculous. Like this film’s dialogue.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011): The superior adaptation, which is impressive. The superior Lisbeth, which is really impressive. Please make the sequels! One complaint: very inconsistent with the accents.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol: I love me some M:I, and I approve this film. Need to re-watch 1 and 3 to pick my favourite. Pegg steals this one, though.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: Doesn’t quite live up to the original, and suffers from trying to be bigger, but is still a lot of fun. RDJ is excellent, obviously.
Hugo: A beautiful and strange love letter to cinema. Also possibly the first film to make 3D really work since Avatar. All it took was Scorsese.
